A Day at Sea

Last evening our Captain - whatever his name is - Sparrow, announced that early this morning we'd likely see whales in the sound.  We're on our way to Ketchikan and once we're in the really deep waters in the passage, we should start to see more and more whales.

So I got up about 6:30 this morning to pee, and thought I'd take a quick look out to see if I could see any orcas or humpbacks.  Instead, I saw this:

Hard to tell, but it's fog.  FOG!  No whales.  Just fog.

Since it's a day at sea, we took advantage of the time and did some laundry.  Clothes from our stay in Vancouver got washed, and now (I think) we can make it for the rest of the trip with clean clothes.  Yay!

We also strolled around the ship and did a bit of window shopping.  We ducked into the casino and sat down at a blackjack table...it was well worth it!

We doubled our money in about 45 minutes!

The rest of the day we just lazed around.  It was formal night in the dining room, and...lemme just say (and I direct this to the folks at Princess) IT'S ALASKA FOR CRYIN' OUTLOUD!  We've packed hiking boots, flannel shirts, fleece, and windbreakers.  I really don't have room in my luggage for a cocktail dress...or Joe for a suit.  Ridiculous!  So we eschewed formal night and went instead to one of the specialty restaurants on board...not so concerned about formal night.

Fed and watered,we returned to our room.  You know, it just isn't a cruise without a little towel sculpture.  Hello Mr. Penguin.

Tomorrow - Ketchikan!
